How To Apply For Student Visa ?

Student Visas are provided to individuals who wish to come to India and study at a recognized university. The entire process of student visa application only requires three steps: -

  • Individuals are first required to fill an online application form by visiting the official website of Government of India i.e., https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/
  • After filling up the application form applicants are required to submit the same with all the required documents at the Indian Visa Application Center or at the Indian Mission.
  • After successful document verification the passport and the student visa are generated which the applicant can retrieve from the Visa Application Center or the Indian Mission.



Eligibility

Indian Missions/Embassies grant a student visa for a period of five years or for the duration of the course of study, whichever is less. The student visa will be provided on the following grounds:

  • To foreign students coming to India to pursue full time and regular academic studies in India.
  • To foreign students coming for industrial training, summer projects, and internships.
  • The provisional student visa is valid for six months for the students who are exploring admission or taking admission tests.
  • Applicants should provide proof of admission to a full-time regular academic course in a reputed/recognized educational institution in India and evidence of financial support.
  • In case of admission in a medical or paramedical course, the applicant should also possess a "No Objection Certificate" from the Ministry of Health.
  • Spouse and dependent family members accompanying the applicant can apply for an Entry Visa (Not Tourist Visa). The Entry Visa will automatically get terminated once the period of the principal visa holder gets is over.



Visa Extension

Foreign students may apply for visa extension for a period of one year at time up to 5 years (whichever is less for students pursuing full time and regular courses in a recognised university or institution). For extension a student must be sponsored by the university and nothing adverse must be reported against him/her. The process involves the following simple steps:

  • First, students will have to visit the FRROs/District Superintendent of Police (FROs).
  • The FRROs / FROs cum Superintendent of Police can grant the student and research scholar one year visa extension on year-to-year basis for a period of up to five years.
  • As per Indian immigration rules, students must submit the following documents at the time of visa extension:-
    • Visa Extension form
    • Recent passport size photograph
    • Original Bonafede certificate from College / University / Institute
    • Copy of VISA /Passport/Registration Book
    • Copy of residence proof
