What is Convocation ?

The word “Convocation” which is often used on the campuses of colleges and universities, is celebratory ceremony where degrees are conferred upon a graduating class. When on stage graduating students receive their academic hoods, and cross the stage to receive their degrees in front of the university’s Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Executive Vice President of Gyan Sagar Foundation and faculty members with family and friends in the audience.


3rd Convocation

The third convocation of The Assam Royal Global University was held on 30th October, 2023 where 1197 graduates have been conferred their Degrees from the following batches:

Postgraduate - Class of 2023 (2021-23)

Undergraduate - Class of 2023 (2020-23)

2nd Convocation

R.G.U.'s second convocation was held on 11th November 2022 in the University Campus themed on the North-Eastern state of Meghalaya, was presided over by :

  • The Visitor of the University, His Excellency Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Hon’ble Governor of Assam.
  • Graced by Hon’ble Union Minister, Shri Nitin Gadkari as the Chief Guest .
  • Hon’ble Education Minister of Assam Dr.RanojPegu, as the Distinguished Guest.
  • Mr. Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Environment and Forests, Act East Policy Affairs, Welfare of Minorities .
  • Shri Bimal Bora, Minister of Industries and Commerce and Public Enterprises, Cultural Affairs.

A total of 951 students received their degrees and diplomas, comprising of 30 Gold Medallists, 36 Silver Medallists along with 2 recipients of Chancellor’s Gold Medals, 5 recipients of Salvers and Medals for Excellence in Literary Activities, Excellence in Cultural Activities, Excellence in Community Service, Excellence in Mentoring, and Excellence in Sports.

The Assam Royal Global University conferred Honoris Causa, to three distinguished recipients- Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, The Year of Science Chair Professor, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Ms. Patricia Mukhim, The Editor, The Shillong Times, and Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

1st Convocation

The first Convocation of the Assam Royal Global University (RGU) was held at the University Campus on 30th March 2022.
A total of 1723 students graduating in the years 2019,2020 and 2021 have been conferred their Graduate and Post-Graduate Degrees and Diplomas.
Three very distinguished personalities of the country were honored in the convocation with honorary degrees.

  • Professor C.N.R. Rao, FRS has been conferred the D.Sc. Honoris Causa for his lifelong Commitment to science and invaluable contribution towards the growth of scientific research in the country.
  • Professor Nagen Saikia, eminent litterateur received the D.Litt. Honoris Causa for his critically acclaimed work in the field of Assamese literature and for his distinguished contribution to society, culture and polity.
  • The D.Litt. honoris causa was also conferred on Shri.Sajjan Bhajanka, an eminent industrialist, educator and social worker for his outstanding contribution for entrepreneurial development in the Northeast India.

The solemn ceremony of the convocation, attended by more than 4000 invited guests including many distinguished academicians of the country and the graduating students, was declared open by the Chancellor of the University Dr. A. K. Pansari.

In his address, Dr. Pansari stated that the idea of establishing the RGU has been driven by a spirit of philosophy and service to the society. Emphasizing on values, positive attitude, skill and an open mind of the students Dr.Pansari advised the graduating students to strive for becoming good human beings with commitment and integrity. Congratulating the graduating students,His Excellency Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Hon’ble Governor of Assam who is the Visitor of the university emphasized upon making quality education inclusive in the country. He called upon the students “to introspect and ponder the value of their degrees and Diplomas for addressing the challenges of the outside world”. Professor Mukhi in his address made special reference to the exceptional resilience displayed by the university by effectively resorting to the digital platforms for the transaction of academic activities during the disruptive Covid 19 pandemic. Attending the convocation as the Guest of Honor, Professor Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of Delhi University delivered the convocation address. In his address, Professor Singh called upon the graduating students to contribute towards nation building with strong moral character. He also stated that our youth must empower them with the knowledge and skill of the latest technology.
