Career Counselling and Guidance are given to students to help them acquire the knowledge, information, skills, and experience necessary to identify & understand career options, and shortlist them in order to take correct decisions on future course of action. This career decision then results in their achieving satisfaction and fulfillment in matters of social, economic, financial and emotional well-being.

In today’s world, the options available before students to seek out on careers are endless. Unlike earlier times, when the options were limited to a few recognized fields like Medicine, Engineering, Teaching, Legal Practice, Civil Service, Defence Service, Corporate Sector and Business, today there is a plethora of avenues in addition to these conventional ones. Most students find it a daunting and more often than not, confusing task to make the right choice of a career or even to shortlist a few plausible options. Any mistake made in the formative years about his or her career, in understanding the reality of matching desire with capability, may prove to be unproductive and frustrating if not disastrous. Retracting from the path once trodden upon due to the desire not fructifying into achievement, may be painful and often impossible due to limitations of age, orientation and loss of valuable time.

Most educational institutions, unfortunately, do not provide structured and systematic Career Guidance to their students. The focus remains on teaching what the syllabi/curricula lay down for the various subjects. This methodology builds the students’ knowledge bank of their chosen subjects but it happens to be inadequate to prepare them for picking up careers that they desire for. However, it is not enough to be adept at being prepared for academic examinations and for obtaining University degrees. Preparedness for competitive examinations is extremely important for success in choosing and embracing the right career.

Therefore, Royal Global University opened a special Centre for Career Counselling, Coaching and Guidance (RC4G) for students who are desirous of receiving guidance for making the correct decisions regarding their careers and of getting mentorship from expert professionals who have had hands-on experience in their fields of specialisation and thereby attempt the Civil Services Examinations with full confidence instilled in them, of being successful.

ROYAL IAS ACADEMY has been formed under the aegis of The Assam Royal Global University, a leading private university in the Northeast, as an initiative of University Social Responsibility. Carved out as a niche component of the Royal Centre for Career Counselling, Coaching and Guidance (RC4G), Royal IAS Academy aims to provide intensive coaching, counselling and guidance to students desirous of embracing a career in the Civil Services which are considered to be at the highest echelons of Government service and therefore most sought after, both at the national or central level (UPSC) and at the provincial or state level (PCS e.g. APSC). The Academy will endeavour to take up the task in phases:

• by providing general guidance to students to help them understand the systems and methods of selection to the different Services and to match the capabilities of the students with the challenges ahead.
• by providing intensive coaching in the subjects and areas of study required for preparation for the competitive examinations.
• by undertaking to monitor the progress of the aspiring students and handhold them.

Students from outside Guwahati will be provided hostel accommodation in the University campus at reasonable boarding and lodging costs. This will save a lot of time, energy and cost of commuting from the congested city areas.

AFFORDABLE COST OF COACHING
A major advantage of having an Academy in the university will be that the students can simultaneously take the coaching after the regular classes or in the weekends and this will be at a much lower cost than the private institutes in the market. The Academy envisages imparting of coaching through both classroom and online modes. Many meritorious students from the NE that are far away from Guwahati and even farther from Delhi and other Metros, do not have access to honest guidance. There is a plethora of Coaching Centres today - all for commercial purpose and hence they target the vulnerable students and their parents with promises of the moon. SCHOOL OUTREACH

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS (PRELIMS)
The Preliminary exam will consist of 2 compulsory papers.

• PAPER-I General Ability test (GAT): (Marks will be counted for short listing candidates in Prelims exam)
• PAPER-II Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT): Qualifying in nature. 33% required to qualify the paper. Marks will not be counted for short listing candidates in Preliminary examination. This will test the analytical skills of the candidates.

MARKING PATTERN

MAIN EXAMINATION (MAINS)
UPSC Civil Services Main Written Examination is conducted in Offline mode. It consists of 9 papers, out of which 2 are qualifying papers which are not counted for ranking and 7 are compulsory papers to be counted for Final ranking.

NATURE OF PAPERS

PERSONALITY TEST (INTERVIEW)
Interview or personality test for UPSC Civil Services is conducted for a total of 275 marks, with no minimum qualifying marks. Questions based on matters of General Interest will be asked in Interview.

EXAM PATTERN OF APSC CCE 2022-23
The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) was conducting the Combined Competitive Examination in two stages,

• Preliminary Examination
• Main Examination (Mains)

In 2019 the Government of Assam amended these rules as the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination (Amend- ment) Rules, 2019. By this amendment, the APSC has adopted the syllabus of UPSC/IAS from this year. Therefore, you should know the new pattern of the APSC examination system.

(A) APSC CCE PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION (OBJECTIVE TYPE)
The Preliminary Examination shall consist of two papers:

(B) APSC CCE MAIN EXAMINATION (WRITTEN AND INTERVIEW)
The Main Examination shall consist of a written examination after qualifying which the aspirant shall be called for an Interview Test. The written examinations shall consist of six papers of conventional essay type with limited words.

• Age Limit: The candidates must be between the age of 21 and 38 years as of January 01, 2022.

• Know your syllabus thoroughly. Before you start with your preparation for CSE, read the syllabus many a times to comprehend the demand of the examination.
• Reading NCERT textbooks thoroughly is of utmost importance to crack this examination.
• A complicated long book list and multiple sources can be confusing and misleading as we know that it is absolutely not possible to retain everything in the encyclopedia. The key is revision. Multiple revisions of the same standard book instead of following hundreds of books is important as CSE gives more weightage to conceptual clarity than factual information.
• Follow one standard Newspaper and one News Channel on a regular basis.
• Join a standard Test Series.
