Dr. Kushal Kumar Baruah is serving as Professor and Dean School of Environmental and Earth Sciences at Royal Global University, Guwahati.
Prior to this he was serving at Tezpur Central University and super annuated during 2018 as Professor of Higher Academic Grade.
He obtained his Ph. D in Plant Physiology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1979 and went on to pursue his Post Doctoral Study at Moscow State University, Moscow (Russia) from 1986 to1989.
He worked as Visiting Scientist at Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Beijing, China during 2008.
He has also worked as Visiting Scientist at National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi during 1997 to 1999. His area of specialization is Environmental Plant Physiology. Prof Baruah has throughout first division/first class degree in his career; he secured first class first in Botany (Honours) from J B College Jorhat, Assam. A gold medalist in M.Sc. secured first class first with record mark in M.Sc. Botany of Gauhati University) in 1974 . In Ph.D he secured record grade point of 4.00 out of 4.00 in Botany-Plant Physiology, from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1979 and a gold medalist. Dr. Baruah has 44 + years of teaching and research experience. He started his career as Assistant Professor of Plant Physiology at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, in 1979, Reader in Life Sciences at Dibrugarh University in 1984 and thereafter has a long teaching and research experience, holding responsible positions, as Professor and Head of the Department of Crop Physiology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, from 1999-2003. He joined as Professor and Head (founder Head) of the Department of Environmental Science, Tezpur Central University in 2003, in which position he worked up to 2008. From 2008 to 2011 he served as Dean, School of Energy and Environment, Tezpur University.
Published 160 research papers, in various international and national journals, several book chapters and conference proceedings, published 02 books. Prof Baruah has produced more than 16 Ph.Ds and completed 06 national research projects. He is recipient of J.C. Bose Gold medal and Prof K K Nanda memorial gold medal for his outstanding scientific contribution in Plant Physiology awarded by Indian Society for Plant Physiology, New Delhi during 2017 and 2018; recipient of Environmental Science Academy gold medal in 2019. He is a member and fellow of several scientific societies, academies and international scientific bodies. He is a fellow of Indian Society for Plant Physiology New Delhi and Fellow of Environmental Science Academy, elected member of National Academy of Science India. Prof Baruah is associated with Cotton University as Adjunct Professor of Environmental Biology (2020-2022)
