A Philomath who truly loves the art, Sattyakee D’com Bhuyan is known for his extensive experience in all the areas of Theatre Production. A TedX speaker, he is also the founder director of the leading Theatre Group “D’Passion Collective.” He has, in fact, proven his creative excellence, especially on the stage, since an early age, and with more than 25 stellar productions under his belt. One of the first professional English anchors of the region, he has acted and directed numerous plays and short films. Still one of the youngest in the field of direction for the past two decades in the region when it comes to English Theatre,
he is also the founder member of the North East Writers Forum.
Compelled by his passion for acting, he has also acted in a myriad of TV productions and Assamese Feature Films; Mission China being his latest release. As a former journalist, he was a reporter with “The Telegraph,” “North East File” – News based Program on the Northeast aired on CNN, DD I and DD International. A trained Western Classical fiddle player and music critic, he was also the first correspondent from the Northeastern India for magazines like the Rock Street Journal, The Sun, Rave, Connect and dabbled as a guest vocalist & lyricist for bands in the early 90’s. D'com is also known as a notable theatre and film critic for his immense knowledge on film and theatre as a subject and for his unbiased critical reviews.
With a Masters in Linguistics, he went on to serve at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati as an Assistant Scientist (Languages) RCILTS, Dept. of Computer Science & Engg. Presently, he is working on his creative projects with the “D’ Passion Collective” in Northeast India apart from holding key positions in many leading institutes of the country. He is a mentor at the Royal Global School, an Adjunct Faculty at the Royal Global University, a guest lecturer in the field of communications at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences; National Institute of Design and National Institute of Fashion Technology, among many others.
Previously, in 2005, he led an Indian delegation of educators to the South West Asia’s Youth Leadership Programme held in Japan, and was the Youth Ambassador of the country.
In the year 2004, he joined the World Bank Group’s South Asia Communications Team, and has travelled widely across various nations around the globe ranging from United States of America to South Africa.
In 2010, he was selected as the Youth Icon of the country by India Today for his creative contribution towards the arts in the region. He retired towards the end of 2014 after serving The World Bank Group for more than a decade. Apart from teaching, Bhuyan is currently also engaged in regularly conducting theatre and creative writing workshops for aspiring minds in unleashing their creative potential. He is also a columnist and writes regularly in newspapers and journals. Furthermore, through his talks, seminar presentations, and creative workshops, D’com has also been instructing on effective communication skills, embracing Sustainable Development Goals, tackle climate emergency & build a sustainable world and other related topics in various educational institutions across the country.
