GUWAHATI, August 10, 2026: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) has
appointed veteran media professional and acclaimed Assamese musician Shri Mayukh Hazarika as Professor of
Practice at the Royal School of Communication and Media. Shri Hazarika brings nearly three decades of
distinguished experience in national media, television, creative communications and event management.
Expressing his happiness, Shri Hazarika said, “After acquiring a master’s degree from the Mass Communication
Research Centre, Jamia in Delhi, a three-decade long stint in television - first as an integral part of an
electronic news gathering team for NDTV, and then going through the grind of creating content for India's
first lifestyle channel, GOODTiMES, chasing deadlines, driving revenue and navigating through the rigours of
broadcast television, it was time to slow down. So here I am at the prestigious Royal Global University, a
place serving the most serene environment and meaningful holistic education”.
A part from his remarkable achievements in the media industry, Mr. Hazarika is also a celebrated Assamese
singer, songwriter and composer. He has released several acclaimed music albums, performed extensively
across India and overseas, and has played a significant role in promoting Assamese music and culture. In
recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was recently honoured with the Times Business Awards for
Excellence in Media, Music and Cultural Storytelling.
Welcoming Mr. Hazarika to the University, the RGU leadership expressed confidence that his vast professional
experience and creative vision would greatly enrich the learning experience of students by exposing them to
contemporary industry practices and real-world media challenges.
As Professor of Practice, Mr. Hazarika will mentor students, conduct industry-oriented sessions, facilitate experiential learning, and strengthen collaborations between academia and the media industry.
