GUWAHATI, March 23, 2026: In a significant step towards promoting higher learning, research, and scholarly engagement in Assamese language and literature, The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) has decided to introduce modern Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Assamese from the upcoming academic session. The programmes will be designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) and aim to create a vibrant intellectual space for the study and advancement of Assamese language and literature at an international standard.
Under the proposed structure, students enrolling in the programme will be able to obtain a Bachelor’s degree after three years (six semesters). Those who continue for an additional year (two semesters) will receive a Bachelor’s degree with Honours, while students securing 75% or above will be eligible for a Bachelor’s degree with Honours and Research.
The programme will follow an integrated and flexible academic framework, allowing students to pursue a one-year postgraduate programme after completing the four-year undergraduate course. Thus, the full academic pathway will extend to five years, culminating in the award of an MA degree in Assamese.
In line with the provisions of the National Education Policy, the programme will also offer multiple exit options. Students may exit after three years (six semesters) with a bachelor’s degree, after four years (eight semesters) with a bachelor’s degree with honours or honours with research or complete the five-year integrated pathway to obtain a master’s degree. People can call at 97060 02216 or email to preeti.das@rgu.edu.in for any further information.
The introduction of this programme in a private university setting is expected to play an important role in strengthening, expanding, and advancing the study of Assamese language and literature, while opening new avenues for research and academic engagement in the field.
