Gagannauts to visit Space by 2030, Land on Moon by 2040: Ex-ISRO Chairman Dr. Kiran Kumar speaks on “Vision for Indian Space Saga” at RGU

GUWAHATI, February 24, 2026: The Department of Physics, The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), today organized an inspiring Public Talk on “Vision for Indian Space Saga” by A. S. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Member of the Space Commission, and Chairman of the Apex Science Board, ISRO. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, researchers, and distinguished guests.

In his illuminating address, Shri Kiran Kumar elaborated on ISRO’s remarkable contributions not only to national space science and technology but also to the everyday lives of citizens. Citing the successful legacies of Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission, and India’s geostationary satellite programmes, he highlighted how ISRO has earned global recognition through self-reliance and technological excellence. He emphasized that ISRO strategically utilizes available global technologies while indigenously developing critical technologies that are not accessible, thereby strengthening India’s technological sovereignty.

Outlining the future roadmap of India’s space programme, he spoke about the ambitious goal of sending Indian astronauts (Gagannauts) into space and articulated a long-term vision of achieving a safe human landing and return mission to the Moon by 2040. His address reflected confidence, clarity, and a forward-looking vision for India’s emergence as a leading space power.

Earlier in the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Dhubajyoti Borah, Advisor to the Chancellor, RGU, addressed the gathering and emphasized the transformative role of scientific research and innovation in nation-building. He applauded ISRO’s extraordinary achievements and encouraged students to nurture scientific temper, perseverance, and dedication.

The session concluded with a vibrant interactive segment, where students engaged enthusiastically with the eminent scientist, raising thoughtful questions about space missions, research prospects, and career opportunities in the space sector.
