Programme Overview:

The M.Sc. Physics programme helps to provide in depth knowledge of the subject which is supplemented with tutorials, brain storming ideas and problem solving efforts pertaining to each theory and practical course. M.Sc. Mathematics aims at developing mathematical ability in students with acute and abstract reasoning. M.Sc. Chemistry provides a comprehensive study of various branches of chemistry to develop a critical and analytical approach to all major areas of the subject and the industries.

Pedagogy:

Master’s Programme in Chemistry aims at providing a comprehensive study of various branches of chemistry (e.g., physical, inorganic, organic) to develop a critical and analytical approach to all major areas of the subject. The teaching methodology includes lecture, demonstration, seminars, projects and presentations. The Department of Physics offers core papers in Physics and Advanced Analytical Techniques for introducing the Physics concepts in measurement techniques in addition to the regular curriculum, In the Physics Curriculum advanced topics in Electronics and Materials sciences are included. In Mathematics, the first two semesters focus is on the basic courses in mathematics such as Algebra, Analysis and Number Theory along with the basic applied course ordinary and partial differential equations. In the third and fourth semester focus is on the special courses, elective course and skill based courses including Project work & thesis.

Learning Facilities:

Department of M.Sc. has the following learning facilities for the Students like licensed software’s MATLAB/ Mathematika are made available to research scholars and teachers in the Research Lab, well-furnished class rooms with adequate projection facilities, well-equipped class laboratories for conducting various courses and experiments. The laboratories are being upgraded from time to time. A computer lab with internet facility is provided for the benefit of the students. Approaching the subject from theoretical and practical points of view, students are being given opportunity to attend seminars, workshops etc. Well qualified and experienced faculty members, industrial and academic collaborations are strength of the departments. Library facility with well stocked books and journals are available for students. Students are taught Analysis of samples, estimation of chemical substances with all technical details etc.

Career Opportunities:

M.Sc. is very much demanding & students can gain a respectable job in this area after completing the programme. There are various specializations that one can pursue in M.Sc. programme. After passing master degree in science, one can go for a research study in top organizations such as ISRO, DRDO etc. One can also work in a government & private sectors in various technical & non-technical posts.

Programme Outcome:

A graduate with a Master's degree has knowledge and ability to explain chemical nomenclature, structure, reactivity, and function and synthesize many new compounds in their specific field of research. Upon completion of the degree in Physics, students should be able to apply graduate-level knowledge and solve problems in the areas of electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, statistical mechanics, and advanced mathematical methods. A graduate with a Master‘s degree in Mathematics has knowledge of advanced models and methods of mathematics, including some from the research frontier of the field, and expert knowledge of a well-defined field of study, based on the highest international level of research in mathematics.
