Programme Overview:

Psychology is the scientific study of the mental and behavioral functions of humans and animals. Subjects usually studied under this degree are Advanced General Psychology, Statistics & Research Methods, Psychopathology, Health Psychology, Psycho-Therapeutics, Organizational Behavior, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Counselling, Cognitive Psychology, Neuro-Psychology, Psycho diagnostics, Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology etc. Application of psychological principles to solve human problems has acquired new dimension with the changing nature of the challenges that the world faces today. In view of this, the scientific discipline of applied psychology has emerged as a natural process of evolution in the knowledge base. In Clinical Psychology the subject focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. The specialized discipline mainly deals with the psychoanalytic approaches or child and adolescent treatment modalities.

Pedagogy:

MA in Psychology at RSBAS involves regular lectures and interactive discussions that are supplemented with field visits, student presentations, mini research projects, workshops, intercollegiate participation at the local and national level, and research collaborations with NGOs etc. Applied Psychology is a field that requires thorough training and RSBAS aims to do just that by training the students on a wide range of approaches that constitute psychology and allowing the students to apply their knowledge through various methods of current research. During MA in Clinical Psychology, a theoretical foundation will be built for the students through classroom training which the students will be able to practically apply in real situations through hours of clinical placements, both in our on-campus Psychology Clinic as well as during internships and also in their professional lives.

The department provides the students with learning facilities like: Lecture Theatres, Well stocked Library, Computer Centre, Laboratories for practical implementation of their learnings, etc.

Career Opportunities:

Candidates with MA in Psychology are recruited in various positions like private schools where student counseling as well as mental fitness services to adolescents is provided, jobs as Junior Psychologist in the community mental fitness departments, jobs with private companies involved in the research, data collection and psychoanalysis. Some can find jobs in rehabilitation centers as Assistants Psychologists, etc. The true number of careers related to applied psychology is limitless. The opportunities are such as in Forensic Psychology, Industrial-organizational psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Health Psychology, and Sports Psychology, etc. A candidate from MA Psychology specialized in Clinical Psychology will be able to find jobs in various accredited psychiatric nursing homes, government hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, counseling units, etc. Most of the MA Psychology graduates will be recruited in to various posts as to providing counseling services to the mentally troubled individuals.

Programme Outcome:

Students completing the MA in Psychology program will understand the major theoretical perspectives and research methods across areas of experimental psychology, i.e., Developmental, Social, Cognitive, and Physiological. MA in Applied Psychology enables students to learn how to apply psychology in work and in the community, and how psychological interventions might help with real world problems. The students after successful completion of Clinical Psychology will demonstrate knowledge of a variety of psychotherapy theories and in-depth knowledge of one chosen theory of intervention.
