Programme Overview:

Interior design is a profession that combines creativity, technical knowledge, and business skills. Interior designers work with clients and other design professionals to develop and design solutions that are safe, functional, attractive, and meet the needs of the people for use of space. Interior Designing is the link between man and environment. It is the relationship of a man with his surrounding space, through elements like colour, light, material, texture and form. Successful Interior Designer excites, inspires, reassures and relaxes the user of the space and does so in a way that is appropriate to the needs of both the space and the user.

Pedagogy:

The course includes distinctive modules that are designed to prepare the students for latest industry demands. Each module is assessed through periodical Formative Assessments, Assignments, Research Works, and through the originality, innovation, and quality of the final Project. Also, continuous monitoring of each student is done throughout the year through peer assessments and internal/external reviews. During the course, students are exposed to latest industry trends through Workshops, Seminars, and Guest Lectures from professionals in the field; Industrial Visits to interior design related industries; Real-time and Professional Practices at leading organizations; and live streaming of global Seminars.

Note: minor modifications in this structure may be incorporated as per the recommmendations of Board of Studies * these are compulsory subjects and scores/grades will be awarded in the end semester examination ** Subject to availability of the faculty members, few foreign language courses will be offered.

Learning Facilities:

The department provides its students with dedicated Interior Design classroom with digital equipment’s, air-conditioned Studio with drawing boards and work tables, Interior workshop with industry-standard machineries, Well equipped high end computers with applicable design software (i.e. AutoCAD, 3D Max, Photoshop, Google sketch etc.to enable students to convert their imagination into a virtual reality Scaled . The department has material lab well equipped with the latest building materials in the market to keep the students updated. Model making workshop for miniature modeling, access to Art studio and an in-house library apart from the Central Library is equipped with a collection of books, journals and e-journals from the field of Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape, Design etc. It encourages the students by participating in industry visits, interaction with experts, exhibitions, seminars and workshop etc.

Programme Outcome:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to evaluate design, basic design philosophies, and other attributes of a good design. Student will be capable to conduct integrated research to include analysis and interpretation of the brief. They carry out preparation of initial ideas, market research, investigation and practical exploration into materials, processes and techniques research based on analysis of the brief. They also use materials and processes to meet specified design requirements & develop design solutions using 3D formal elements. Graduates develop and gain thorough understanding of contemporary professional practice and work. They develop the ability to create designs for interior environments to meet required functions and specifications & present proposed solutions to the design brief using selected media and techniques. Students will be able to prepare accurate scale 2D and 3D work based by site surveys & employ technical processes to respond to interior design briefs competently.
