Bachelor of Architecture

Programme Overview:

RSA is an outcome of increasing demand for well qualified Architectural professionals to shape the future of Indian cities. The School endeavors to contribute to the Nation’s building plans as well as NE region’s growth by offering students of Architecture a creative environment for self-expression, self-discovery and intellectual growth. Architecture as a profession involves and influences positively the way the built environment is planned, designed, used and maintained to improve the quality of life.

Pedagogy:

The school has adopted the teaching method of “learning by doing” whereby students are encouraged to critically reflect on contemporary challenges with emphasis on heritage, conservation, development of new building typologies, critical issues of environmental sustainability and evolution of new technologies. The esteemed teachers of the school act as the guide and moderator to two-way teaching learning process within the classroom. The students are actively engaged to partake in relevant extra-curricular and co-curricular activities beyond the classroom. The focus of the school is to produce architects with an astute sense of responsibility and competence to face the evolving challenges of the society in ever innovating manner.

Learning Facilities:

Presently, the school is housed in the existing University Campus. It has independent Architecture studios; workshops etc. and also has the benefit of sharing the Academic and Non-academic facilities, amenities and expertise of other schools of the University. The school has a separate library having wide collection of bboks and journals. The students have access to the Central Library which also has a collection of books, journals, e-journaland magazines, related to subjects of Architecture, ever growing. The library contains a separate section for the documentation of student’s work, which is enriched every year by the contribution of students and faculties.

Lecture halls having seating capacity of 60 students, each are equipped with comfortable seats, audio-visual facilities like OHP, LCD Projector, and Slide Projector etc. It is also equipped with high end day view projection systems & interactive smart boards for highly empowered teaching & learning experiences.

Design Studios, comprises of drawing tables which enables the students of the “learning by doing” process.

Model-Making room is equipped with machines and instruments to enable students to convert their imagination into a reality.

Computer Lab, The computer lab at Royal School of Architecture is equipped with the most updated machines and software, under the supervision knowledgeable faculty experienced in relevant software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, etc. It is equipped with high tech latest gadgets to measure various weather conditions like Sun Dials, Weather Station, Barometer, Solarimeter etc. Learning and expressing architecture through digital means is welcomed and encouraged. Faculty strives to provide training in a structured methodology from first year ascending to the fifth year till when they become proficient to express their design in a true E-format and present their schemes in 3Dimensional visuals when necessary.

Material Museum is equipped with the latest updated samples of countless building materials available in the market acquainting the students with the different types of construction materials and technologies actually used in building sites. Other facilities like art studio, photographic studios etc. are also provided with necessary equipment’s to help the students.

Career Opportunities:

Career in Architecture is attractive, lucrative, and has lots of potential in terms of development. The architectural degree is designed in such a way that it fulfills the criteria of professional certifying bodies. This field covers different works such as spatial design, safety management, aesthetics, material management, etc. An architecture graduate is equipped to design right from iconic building to simple and comfortable living and is sensitive to the various needs of the society. An architect is a combination of Artist, Professional & Entrepreneur who has to work as per the need of the client. An architecture graduate can also get into varied fields such as film making, set designing, management etc.

Programme Outcome:

The course inculcates the ability to use appropriate, representational media, including freehand drawing and computer technology, to convey essential formal elements at each stage of design process. Students are trained to collect, record, evaluate and apply relevant information in architectural coursework.

It also enables the students to understand the western architectural concepts and traditions in architecture, landscape, and urban design as well as the climatic, technological, socioeconomic, and other cultural factors that have shaped and sustained them. Students are also trained to understand the diverse needs, values, behavioral norms, physical ability, and social and spatial patterns that characterize different cultures and individuals and the implication of this diversity for the societal roles and responsibilities of architects.

Students during internship become aware about the basic principles and legal aspects of practice organization, financial management, business planning, time and project management, risk mitigation, and mediation and arbitration as well as an understanding of trends that affect practice, such as globalization, outsourcing, project delivery, expanding practice settings, diversity, and others.
