Programme Overview:

Bachelor Design(FD) is a four year Bachelor degree programme, specializing in fashion design. The word ‘fashion’ today interprets various types of experimental lifestyles concerned with the well-being of our society. Our notions of ‘fashion’ and clothing are multidimensional, ever changing and creative. The discipline of Fashion Design provides in-depth academic inputs and avenues for an exciting career that specializes into multifaceted genre of ‘fashion’.

India has the most fashionable art of dressing-up that we inherit through cultural tastes and a refinement of shocking versatility. The culmination of the yearning of western styles merges with the Indian potential of creativity which results into a whole new genre of fashion ideas. The Fashion Design discipline enables young individuals to nurture their flair for design expressions that compliment clothing and individuals.

Regular field trips along with lectures and seminars by visiting designers, industrialists, manufacturers and artists broaden student`s awareness of the design field. Career Opportunities:

The career in fashion designing starts as a trainee designer after the completion of respective courses and later enters into higher stages of fashion industry. The basic instinct of artistic nature, creative mind with excellent talent in making sketches and a good sense of choosing colors suitable for the need, etc. are the necessary attributes for an aspiring fashion designer.

Programme Outcome:

Graduates of a Bachelor of Fashion Design will have a broad and coherent body of knowledge of Fashion design as a concept. They will develop skills to critically review, analyze, consolidate and synthesize knowledge about their discipline to demonstrate a broad understanding of fashion design in depth. They will also develop creative skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in identifying and solving design problems with intellectual independence and communication skills to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas. The students will acquire a good level of basic skills in Fashion Designing, knowledge of the historical context, the sociology of consumption, fashion textile & design culture and its historical evolution, understanding of Fashion Trends along with their consumption scenarios. They will learn about the basic elements of design and manufacture of fashion products, their materials and production techniques. The students will also demonstrate knowledge of the techniques and tools for visual and physical representation of designs, manual drafting, patternmaking and construction, technical drawing, photography, creating models and prototypes of products. They will acquire knowledge of color, the mechanisms of visual perception and color systems, basic skills in prototyping techniques, manufacturing technologies and processes and an ability to undertake effective research.
